1.

Do I have to go to the dealer for scheduled maintenance to keep my warranty?

Your new car's warranty will remain in tact if you visit your regular mechanic, provided you maintain regular services and keep records

Major service's I.E 30K,60K,and 90K are when the dealers charge large amounts to do a relatively simple check on the car. At CHESTNUT MOTORS we check at regular intervals and do the preventative maintenance at a fraction of the dealer's cost.

2.

When should I change my engine oil?

The service industry recommends every 3,000 miles for regular oil and 5,000 miles for synthetic oil. On some of the newer cars the dealer recommends 10,000 miles between oil changes - we have found this too long a period between oil changes and this can damage the engine in the long term. We at CHESTNUT MOTORS send reminders for when your oil change is due.

3.

What should I check for when purchasing a used car?

At CHESTNUT MOTORS we do a PPI (pre purchase inspection). This involves a test drive, putting the car on the lift, checking undercarrige, ,suspension, and brakes. We also check for rust and possible accident damage, We will also check the car's Computers for any codes. We charge 1 hour labor for this.

4.

My check engine light just came on - is it safe to drive?

The check engine light comes on when it detects a problem with any one of the many systems. The problem can range from a simple left the gas cap loose to more serious engine problems. We have the computer equipment to diagnose and repair all cars.

We have teamed up with a company that for a small investment of $60.00 you can have peace of mind as we can monitor your car remotely, and some times take care of the problem remotley as well.

5.

My car is up for its annual state inspection and my "check engine light is on". Do I have to fix it?

If you car is 15 years old or younger ,then yes .When you car has its annual state inspection ,the state requires that the OBD (on board diagnostic) is plugged in and checked as well as all the safety features. If the check engine light is on it will fail. .Chestnut Motors suggests that at this point if your sticker is due to take a rejection sticker as this will make it leaal for you to move the car and have it repaired within a 60 day period. REMEMBER after the repair most cars have to be driven about 100 miles to reset the computer before it can be re-tested.
